This one-day conference held on August 11th in Memphis was packed with the latest innovations in wood pole systems, preservatives, performance of pole remediation treatments, an overview of national standards and sustainable design.
Bob Baeppler, Business Development Manager with Viance, has a career-long history in the wood pole industry. Bob spoke on the environmental benefits of the newest innovation in wood pole preservatives, UltraPole NXT TM with DCOI. Bob states, “With penta exiting the U.S. market this year, UltraPole NXT utilizes a standardized, award-winning preservative active ingredient, DCOI, and combines it into a system that integrates easily into today’s oil-borne treating plants and production processes.”
This environmentally advanced formulation contains the active ingredient DCOI, which is not a Restricted Use Pesticide and is not persistent in soil. UltraPole NXT uses less energy, fossil fuels, and water to produce; with lower ecotoxicity than other materials used in poles. DCOI is also the active ingredient in Ecolife®, the best performing, non-metal based, above-ground residential deck preservative on the market.
Sponsors include North American Wood Pole Council (NAWPC), Mississippi State University and Oregon State University.
